Beware of Work at Home Job Scams
The Internet has certainly become an indispensable part of most households around the world - and the numbers are only increasing. This advancement of technology has also seen an increase in work a home jobs, because the widespread use of the Internet makes it an invaluable marketing tool; an invaluable marketing tool that most companies will want to make use of - therefore, it's only natural that the internet has provided people today with almost unlimited opportunities when it comes to work at home jobs.Such work at home options are especially beneficial to those who are looking for ways to supplement the income from their day jobs, and for parents who wish to work from home so that they may be more available for their children. This is because most internet-based work at home jobs allow great flexibility when it comes to time. In fact, many people today have opted to run full time home based businesses online, instead of relying on a "nine to five" day job. "Advancements in computer technology and the Internet have changed the way America works, learns and communicates. The Internet has become an integral part of America's economic, political and social life." ~Bill Clinton The recent years however, have also seen a rise in "work at home job scams." This is when so-called "job posters" use "fake" job listings in order to get hold of applicant details, which include both personal and financial information. It's important to be aware of such scams before you start applying for jobs online. Always think twice before you provide any website with any of your details, no matter how "authentic" the job posting may seem. And remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! The next time you try to apply for a job online, keep the following in mind: - Do not trust "get rich quick" schemes. If you're offered a high-income for a simple part time job, be careful; this is likely to be a scam. - Ask for references such as other employees and contractors. - Find out if the work at home job is listed in the job postings. - Ask the right questions - especially about how they're planning to pay you. Are you going to get a salary, or will you get paid on commission? - Beware of "processing claims" - this is when you will be asked to purchase software and start-up equipment. Be wary of so-called prospective employers who claim that you have to pay them so that they can get you started. It's surprising how many people get caught to this almost too-obvious money making scheme. There are also a surprising number of websites that claim to provide you with information on legitimate work at home jobs - for a fee of course! Avoid such websites. - Always be wary of job offers that you receive via email - especially those that claim to have got hold of your details from "other" sites. - Contact the Better Businesses Bureau (BBB) for information on the company. The Better Businesses Bureau's website will give also give you information on complaints (if any), in relation to the company. - For information on commission actions, contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). - Remember, you do not get paid for simply "stuffing envelopes." Be smart and choose wisely when it comes to your work-at-home options. There are plenty of ways for you to earn a lucrative income by working in the comfort of your own home - but it's important not to get carried away or cheated by money making schemes. |
